Privacy Policy

Overview
Orange Music Player is a macOS desktop music player. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data the app accesses, stores, and transmits.
Data Collection
Orange Music Player does not collect, track, or transmit any personal data or analytics. There are no user accounts required to use the app (Last.fm integration is optional), no advertising, and no telemetry.
Data Stored Locally
All app data is stored locally on your Mac and never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable Last.fm integration.
- Music library database — Track metadata (title, artist, album, duration, file path, etc.) extracted from your audio files is stored in a local SQLite database.
- Play history and statistics — Listening history, play counts, and favorites are stored locally.
- Playlists — User-created playlists are stored locally.
- Preferences — App settings such as shuffle/repeat mode, queue state, and library folder paths are stored in UserDefaults.
- Security-scoped bookmarks — When you grant folder access, the app stores security-scoped bookmarks to remember your permission across launches.
File System Access
The app accesses audio files on your local filesystem and network-attached storage (NAS) only within folders you explicitly select. Access is governed by macOS App Sandbox and requires your permission via the system file picker.
Network Connections
Orange Music Player connects to the internet only for the following optional features:
Album Artwork Fetching
- MusicBrainz (musicbrainz.org) — Queried to match album and artist metadata. Only album titles and artist names are sent.
- Cover Art Archive (coverartarchive.org) — Used to download album cover artwork based on MusicBrainz release IDs.
- Fanart.tv (fanart.tv) — Used to download artist images based on MusicBrainz artist IDs.
No personal information is sent to these services. Only music metadata (artist names, album titles) is transmitted to retrieve artwork.
Last.fm Integration (Optional)
If you choose to connect your Last.fm account:
- Last.fm (ws.audioscrobbler.com) — Your Last.fm username and listening activity (track title, artist, album, timestamp) are sent to Last.fm for scrobbling.
- Your Last.fm session key is stored securely in the macOS Keychain.
- You can disconnect your Last.fm account at any time from Settings, which removes stored credentials.
No data is sent to Last.fm unless you explicitly authenticate and enable scrobbling.
Third-Party Services
| Service | Purpose | Data Sent |
|---|---|---|
| MusicBrainz | Album/artist lookup | Artist names, album titles |
| Cover Art Archive | Album artwork | MusicBrainz release IDs |
| Fanart.tv | Artist images | MusicBrainz artist IDs |
| Last.fm | Scrobbling (optional) | Listening activity, username |
Data Sharing
Orange Music Player does not sell, share, or transfer your data to any third party for advertising, marketing, or data mining purposes.
Data Retention
All data is stored locally and persists until you delete the app or clear its data. Last.fm credentials can be removed from Settings at any time. There is no server-side data retention as the app has no backend.
Children's Privacy
Orange Music Player does not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
